Summary Of ResponsibilitiesUnder the general supervision of the classroom teacher, the Early Learning Preschool Paraprofessional supports students in the classroom with educational programming and provides assistance to lead teachers as directed.
Monday-Wednesday(8:15-11:30 a.m.) plus Monthly Meetings and Community Events. 3.25 Hours Per Day, 9.75 Hours Per Week.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Supervise students who take the bus to school
  • Assist with individual or small group instruction as directed by the teacher
  • Support the classroom teacher in monitoring students and attending to individual student needs
  • Prepare instructional materials and assist with the general classroom set-up and clean up
  • Support small group work, engage in 1:1 student interactions, and participate in assessment practices
  • Maintain the orderliness of classroom environment, motor spaces, and hallway displays
  • Support the bathroom and health needs of students
  • Operate standard school equipment
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the teacher or supervisor
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Reads, comprehends, and interprets simple directions and written information
  • Able to articulate expectations to students
  • Interprets and delivers directions to students given by the teacher
  • Applies common sense reasoning in carrying out detailed but simple written or oral instructions
  • Manages problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Develops effective working relationships with students, staff, and community members
  • Demonstrates a warm, caring demeanor and a developmental understanding of the needs of young children
  • Exhibits good listening skills and a willingness to collaborate and cooperate with other staff in accomplishing the goals of the school program
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects in the performance of the job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work environment may be busy, noisy, and hectic at times. Candidates must exhibit a capacity to operate within the normal stresses associated with managing student behavior. Paras must assure the safety and well-being of young children within the busy classroom environment and work alongside staff to accomplish the expectations outlined in the school program.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience working with young children
