St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners is Hiring a Traffic Signal Specialist - 131579 Near Bridge, FL

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
To work on technical traffic signal devices, computers, signal system communication devices, and video detection equipment. Assist in the traffic signal inspections, signs and pavement markings inspections and maintenance.

 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Inspect, repair, modify or restore damaged traffic control devices, equipment and signs.
Verify contract work orders and invoice claims.
Assist the Traffic Signal System Analyst in all related areas of traffic engineering and sign design, fabrication and installation.
Perform in-house maintenance and/or repair of traffic signal control equipment and signs.
Performs traffic volume counts and data entry for analysis if needed.
Performs related work as requested or assigned.
Emergency standby and on-call will be required.
Understand and comply with the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners employee handbook and other established policies and procedures. 
Perform other job-related functions as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
Mathematics and electronic theory.
Must have considerable knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Must have broad knowledge of Federal, State and County roadway standards and specifications.
The principles, practices and method of traffic movements, volumes and
geographic factors affecting traffic flow.
Components and function of sophisticated electronic traffic signal equipment.
 
Abilities:
Write reports and convey information orally.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Tead and verify blueprints.
Program and operate/repair traffic signal equipment.
Operate power lift truck (bucket).
 
Skills:
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the public.
Establishing and maintaining a team environment with fellow employees.
 
 
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Constant walking, standing, use of both hands, fingers and legs. Must have full manual dexterity in both hands and feet. Very frequent lifting of 50 lbs. or less. 
Frequent heavy lifting of 50 lbs. or more. 
Very frequent lifting of 50 lbs. or less reaching above shoulders, kneeling, bending and squatting. Good vision and hearing with or without correction.
 
WORK HAZARDS: Driving in heavy traffic, in all types of weather conditions. Working in public areas under an environment of pedestrian and vehicular traffic while in close proximity of other workers. Frequently working outside under adverse weather conditions of cold, heat, humidity and rain.
 
SAFETY EQUIPMENT USED OR NEEDED: Steel toed work shoes, work gloves, safety vest, safety glasses, hard hats and back support belts. Vehicular seat belts to be used at all times.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Will be working constantly outside under adverse weather conditions of cold, heat, humidity, and rain.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: 
County employees are considered essential personnel in providing and continuing services to our community during and following a disaster, such as a hurricane, or in other emergency situations. As a requirement of County employment, County employees are subject to being required to remain at work during an event, respond to a recall immediately following an event and/or immediately reporting to work when an all clear is declared by the County Administrator. During these types of events, County employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Associates degree in Transportation or Electrical Engineering is preferred. 
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in underground and overhead traffic signal construction. Two (2) years of inspection experience related to traffic control devices.
 
NOTE: An equivalent combination of experience/training and/or experience may be substituted to meet the above noted minimum qualifications.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
Must have a valid Florida Driver's License and maintain a good driving record. Must have a Level I Signal IMSA certification. Must obtain a Level II Signal IMSA certification within one (1) year. Must obtain a Level I Signs and Markings IMSA certification within two (2) years.Pay Grade G10
 
Driving Position – Operating County vehicles and/or equipment is a primary function of this position.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING: This position requires a physical, drug testing, driver's license verification and level 1 background screening which includes fingerprinting.
