The Education Specialist is a clinical leader who assesses, develops, implements and evaluates educational programs and projects that support and improve the provision of quality, cost effective, and compassionate patient care. This individual is also responsible for leading and coordinating the educational activities of the staff.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and coordinates the education and training activities.
  • Demonstrates expertise in care of urgent & occupational medicine patients including various methods of drug testing, EKGs, spirometry, fit testing, audiology, breath alcohol testing, vaccinations, splinting/casting, and clinical software.
  • Maintains clinical competence in the provision of patient care.
  • Demonstrates expertise in the teaching/learning process.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, assess staff performance, and facilitate implementation of new practices in patient care.
  • Collaborates with staff colleagues to develop and implement education and training associated with new technologies, procedures, and other patient care-related activities.
  • Assesses learning needs of staff and provides opportunities to enhance ongoing education and development through mentoring, teaching and clinical support.
  • Identifies, develops and/or provides classroom and clinical experiences to support the learning of new and current nursing personnel.
  • Assists unit leadership with the coordination, scheduling and evaluation of unit-based orientation for new employees.
  • Develops and implements practice related competencies.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors measures of program performance.
  • Demonstrates competency in assigned areas of responsibility.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires sitting for up to 4 hours per day, 2 hours at a time. Standing for up to 6 hours per day, up to 3 hours at a time. Walking for up to 6 hours per day, up to 20 minutes at a time. Occasionally stoops and bends. Occasionally reaches above shoulder level. Frequently uses hands for writing. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.
EDUCATION:
Diploma or Associate’s Degree in a professional nursing program required.
Bachelor's Degree within 5 years of starting the position required.
Master's Degree within 5 years of obtaining BSN required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience in a clinical setting required.
Previous experience providing in-service or education programs preferred.
Current RN license in the State of New Jersey or Pennsylvania, based on work location, required.
CPR certification required.
