GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Director will oversee and direct the overall administration of the Ft. Myers Women’s Shelter. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility, including staff supervision, financial management, programming, procedures, guidelines, food service, maintenance, and safety & security. Also serves as a spiritual leader for the Ft. Myers Women’s Shelter in spreading the message and commission of Jesus in Matthew 25. Ensures that the overall plans/goals adhere to the SMH mission statement

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the shelters, ensuring a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for residents. 
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of staff and volunteers, including recruitment, training, performance management, scheduling, and supervision.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs and services that meet the needs of the shelter’s residents, including emergency housing, counseling, life skills training, and advocacy.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the shelter’s services, adjusting as necessary to meet the changing needs and priorities. 
  • Provides oversight of annual budget for the facility.
  • Monitors and approves AP Invoices and P-Card expenses.
  • Conducts audits of documentation in Mission Tracker ensuring continuity and accuracy of all resident case notes.
  • Oversees and maintains proper protocol and adherence to all policies and procedures as they relate to the shelter programs.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of the property.
  • Assists in the oversight of kitchen operations and food quality standards.
  • Maintains an open-door policy with staff for listening, teaching, and praying as need arises.
  • Coaches staff and clients through personal example and discipleship.
  • Ensures that program fees remain current, and waivers are properly processed.
  • Approves appropriate housing for each client and makes appropriate changes as needed.
  • Oversee the family programming curriculum.
  • Work closely with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and all other child advocacy programs as a Mandated Reporter to assist in maintaining the safety of all children in the Shelter Program.
  • Assists in the oversight of the Grant Spending Report monthly, submit check requests for all purchases and child care costs and complete quarterly NCEF and other Grant Reporting. 
  • Works with the Intake Department to coordinate admissions and referrals with partner agencies, the eligibility and screening of potential residents prior to admission, and proper completion of intakes into the Ft. Myers Women’s Shelter. 
  • Plan and coordinate onsite meetings and classes as needed.
  • Obtains and utilizes volunteers and workshop presenters as needed.
  • Attends meetings with representatives of other agencies to keep the community up to date regarding SMH, as well as keeping SMH up to date on services provided through outside agencies.
  • Maintains and develops relationships with outside vendors and partner agencies.
  • Provide oversight in the maintenance of Softrim, LLC to monitor DNA Fusion to manage gate/door access, function, permission and report and/or repair any IT issues.
  • Any additional tasks assigned by the Sr. Director of Shelter and Housing.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, addiction, nonprofit/business management or related field OR a minimum of 5 years’ experience working with homeless and vulnerable populations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in social services, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role, preferably within a shelter or similar environment. 
  • Possesses training and/or work experience in case management, problem solving, leadership, and conflict management.
  • Maintain DCF Childcare Certification and participate in DCF Training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding of the issues facing women and families in crisis, including homelessness, substance abuse, domestic violence, and trauma. 
  • Ability to work as a team leader, supervise staff, coordinate activities with other staff to meet overall objectives within specified timeframes.
  • Strong financial management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people. 
  • Ability to provide firm but compassionate care for residents. 
  • Ability to manage and prioritize large volumes of activity and workload.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet business needs, including evening and weekends, as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to travel to locations as needed.
