Requirements
St Peter’s Catholic Church, in Kansas City, MO (Brookside), is seeking to hire a Director of Youth Ministry. The candidate applying should be a highly motivated, independent, self-starter who has a pioneer spirit and thinks outside of the box. They have the skills and gifts which make them capable of building a program for 6-12 graders from the ground up.
This position is uniquely set up so that in addition to “normal” youth ministry, the youth minister will have the opportunity to form 6th through 8th graders in the classroom at St. Peter’s School. This intentional structure allows the youth minister to have important face time with students and use this as platform for recruiting and building up the youth ministry outside of the school boundaries. The person who gets this position will help the school and the church function as one unit as they cohesively design a system of formation and discipleship where both play an important role and are not working against the other, as is often seen in certain Catholic Church/Parish dynamics.
Part of the reason for this dual pronged approach is because the Diocese of KC MO has moved confirmation from high school to 6th grade. Moving forward, we believe it is important that the language and strategy between the school and the parish be unified in its mission to help kids discern their confirmation. The best way to achieve this is through one person overseeing the whole process.
This position is new to the school and the church; you will have the unique opportunity to envision and create a ministry from the ground up and set the tone for the future.
