ST Public Branding is Hiring a Transit Systems Installer Near Seattle, WA

Salary range is $24.04/hour to $52.88/hour, with a midpoint of $36.06/hour. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

GENERAL PURPOSE:  

Under general supervision, performs installation of various systems such as Fare Collection, CCTV, Variable Message Signs, Automatic Passenger Counters, and other ITS at Sounder, Link Light Rail and ST Express sites in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Includes systems engineering and design of these systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Completes the Installation of conduit, NEMA enclosures, wiring, brackets and associated hardware.
  • Completes the Installation design of Fare Collection, CCTV, Variable Message Signs, Automatic Passenger Counters and other Intelligent Transportation Systems. Includes wiring diagrams, bracket and mounting options, hardware requirements, conduit selection and layout.
  • Completes cable terminations including Coaxial, Ethernet, Power and other cabling.
  • Reviews and Interprets drawings and install systems, updates drawings to As-Built level as needed in coordination with associated project managers.
  • Provides support to the department on matters as directed; attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the fields related to area of assignment; incorporates new developments as appropriate; ensures processes, policies and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively; ensures accountability and compliance with all current and applicable state and federal laws, Agency policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Assist in installation of pilot projects, new hardware demonstrations and evaluations.
  • Provide SME as needed for systems that have been handed over to maintenance.
  • May oversee the work of contracted vendors performing installation work, ensuring standards in connectivity, quality, and workmanship are met. Guides and assists lower level personnel when necessary and/or performs duties of lower level.
  • Assist Engineering teams with installing new equipment and project handover documentation ensuring a completed delivery in accordance with strict timelines. Provides knowledge in design/build scenarios to help deliver projects that meet our standards and can be maintained efficiently.
  • Provide guidance and expertise for contractors in scoping project related work.
  • Maintains inventory and controls assets until handover for maintenance.
  • Champions & models Sound Transit's core values and demonstrates values-based behaviors in everyday interactions across the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in the area of Electronics or Electronic Communication Systems, or closely related field and three years of experience performing installation, maintenance, and repair work of computer systems, logic systems, Analog and digital circuitry or electro-mechanical devices; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications: 

  • Valid driver's license. Position will be required to transport tools and materials to the job site. 
  • Electrical Training Card or License.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Aerial Lift Operation.
  • Basic Electrical Theory.
  • Basic Networking Skills.
  • Cable types and applications.
  • Cable distribution and basic principles of electricity. 
  • Standard electronic wiring, color coding, and connection schemes. 
  • Use, care and safety of corded and cordless drills, cutting equipment, and other tools associated with the position.
  • Ethernet tools, services and applications.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases.
  • Selection and application of cable to support edge system hardware e.g. CCTV cameras.
  • Conduit sizing, type and selection to match a given field application.
  • Use of appropriate hand tools including corded and cordless drills, cutting equipment, threading tools.
  • Use of electronic measuring devices such as DMM, Ethernet testing equipment, other test tools.
  • Fabrication/Machining knowledge. Ability to machine and fabricate independently is desired.
  • Fiber termination and testing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, community groups and the general public. 
  • Making skillful controlled manipulations of small objects such as wiring, tools, and small equipment parts. 
  • Working in small cramped areas, such as equipment enclosures or train cars.
  • Learning job-related material through oral instruction, observation, structured lecture, and reading. 
  • Entering data or information into a computer terminal, personal computer, or other keyboard device. 
  • Performing simple mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebra. 
  • Working under pressure, handling significant problems or tasks, which come up simultaneously or unexpectedly. 
  • Working cooperatively with other departments, Agency officials, and outside agencies.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work is performed a standard hybrid office and field environment. 
  • Position is responsible for performing installation of various systems; may be subject to bending, climbing, crawling, grasping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, talking, seeing, walking, carrying up to 25 pounds, and lifting up to 50 pounds. 
  • Positions working in field may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and/or extreme noise.

  • Position includes occasional weekend/night shifts for work that can only be completed during non-operating hours.
