Certification Details
- A hospital in California is looking for an experienced Cardiac Telemetry nurse for a travel contract.
- - Unit: 4W Cardiac Tele Interventional Unit
- - # beds: 30 Beds
- - Ratios: 4 to 1
- - EMR System: Cerner
- - Add'l Equipment: Pagers linked to call light system & internal spectra link phones
- - Unit Orientation: 2 - 12 hr shifts on home unit. Nurse will get an additional day of orientation in the ICU incase they would float to ICU (See info regarding floating - below) And a split shift on one of the MedSurg units.
- - Types of patients: 24 hr post CABG, chest tubes, pacer wires (nurses don't pull), all interventions out of the cath lab (pacemakers, EP studies, stents, radial access & removal) they do pull sheaths on this unit; however, if traveler is competent & has experience they would test competency for this first. They also get any left-over transfers from ICU w/ multi-system/organ failure if the Dr wants higher level of care VS going to MedSurg. Also would get the same type of patients from the ER.
- - Medications: Cardiac medications, such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, set-rate Dopamine; however they do not titrate any cardiac drips or nitro. A lot of Heparin drips per Heparin protocol, Lasix, No insulin. Occasionally pt may come from the cath lab with Integrilin drip until infusion done.
- - Notes: Very fast paced, high patient turnover, high acuity, high risk patients. Average 600 discharges/month.
Job Details
- The right candidate will have 2 full years of experience, hold an active BLS, ACLS, NIHSS and CA License.
Job Requirements
- - Shifts/Hours: 12's; 7a-7:30p/7p-7:30a
- - Breaks: 1/2 hour break (clock-out); 3 - 15 min breaks per shift (CA Law)
- - Weekends: Every other weekend or equivalent of 4 weekend days in a 4 week schedule (Example: could be 2 in a row, then off 2 in a row). Day Shift: Weekend is Sat/Sun; Nights is Fri/Sat
Schedule Information
- - Nurse Aides: Will vary depending on census. Days 2-3 nurse aides. Nights 1-2 nurse aides
- - Charge Nurse: Yes - There is an assigned charge nurse (non-exempt staff member/not management) that does NOT typically take patients on the shift they are acting as charge; however, other shifts when they are not acting as charge they will serve as a staff nurse.
- - Tele: Spacelabs Monitoring - 24/7 monitor techs on this unit. Techs pull strips. Nurses interpret own strips & set alarm rates with monitor tech.
- - Vents: No - have high-flow, bedside CPAP (maintained by RT)
- - IV Team: No - ICU & ER can assist w/ hard IV sticks
- - RT 24/7: Yes
- - Pharmacy 24/7: Yes - also have clinical pharmacists on the unit throughout day & evening
- - Floating: Tele staff will float to any med/surg units, the other tele unit (5W), & could be floated to ICU. If floated to ICU traveler will be given patients with appropriate level of acuity. They will get orientation to the ICU.;Days, EOW, first to float
