Stamford Health is Hiring an Office Coordinator/Medical Assistant - High Risk OB Near Stamford, CT

Job Description
Join the prestigious team of Stamford Hospital's Women's Specialty Center in the combination role of both an Office Coordinator and a Medical Assistant. The Office Coordination/Medical Assistant assists the practice manager with the day-to-day operations of the High Risk OB Office. Do you have experience with supervising front desk functions and activities related to physician schedules? This position will provide oversight for the administrative, scheduling and billing functions related to the Women's Specialty Center. In addition to being the primary support for administrative positions, the Office Coordinator/MA will provide support when needed as a Medical Assistant to the physicians in the practice. The position requires a working knowledge of all insurance plans, authorization processes and medical terminology.
Hours: Full-time. Monday through Friday day-time hours. Approximately 8AM to 4PM.
Responsibilities
  • Monitors incoming referral/appointment requests from SHMG and outside physicians via eCW, phone or fax and responds in a timely manner.
  • Schedules appointments and communicates with patients as necessary.
  • Documents all actions in eCW according to established protocol for referral documentation and processing.
  • Receives and responds to direct communication from physician offices for urgent referrals and schedules appointments while patient is in the referring physician office to ensure timely consultation.
  • Provide patient care in outpatient physician practice under the direction of the practicing physician, physician assistant, or licensed nurse.
  • Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and accompanying them to the examining room; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; drawing blood, confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders.
  • Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
  • Schedule procedures or tests as directed by licensed provider. Obtains Pre-cert as needed.
  • Handle phone calls and messages for prescriptions, notes, forms, etc.
  • Complete disability and insurance forms.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma is required, Associates Degree preferred with a minimum of 3 years of medical office experience.
  • Certification or Diploma from accredited Medical Assistant school/program OR Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Biology with National Medical Assistant Certification
