POSITION DESCRIPTION

Degree from Accredited College or University
General Responsibilities
  • Create a classroom environment that fosters learning and personal growth for each student.
  • Assist students in developing skills, attitude and knowledge required to create a good foundation for continued education.
  • Establish and maintain effective rapport with students, staff, and parents as necessary.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means available to keep them informed about school programs and student progress.
  • Teach to current Arizona State Standards and abide by all state and federal Special Education Statutes.
Preparation
  • Develop core curriculum lesson plans meeting Arizona State Standards for achieving educational goals and objectives on a daily basis.
  • Develop weekly lesson plans and instructional materials for both small group and individualized instruction to meet student needs and specific objectives.
  • Design special help programs for low achievers and prepare appropriate instructional material to meet students’ individual needs focusing on academic, emotional, and life skills development.
  • Meet as necessary with parents and other professional staff and consultants to monitor and review each child’s progress and evaluate their class placement to provide optimal opportunity for advancement.
Classroom Instruction
  • Instruct pupils in reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, music and/or other appropriate learning activities as specified by Arizona Board of Education.
  • Work cooperatively with other educational staff in identifying and assessing individual student needs to resolve learning problems.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior required to achieve a save classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Make effective use of community resources to enhance classroom instruction.
  • Plan classroom activities and lessons, which are age-appropriate for each class and meet individual needs and interests of the students.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during assigned workday.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with teacher’s lesson plans.
Records Management/Feedback/Discipline
  • Take accurate attendance records.
  • Observe, evaluate and prepare reports on students’ progress.
  • Complete and update all required records on a continual basis; maintain student’s progress in class record books, update District files, and summarize grades for reporting purposes.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
  • Firmly adhere to the Responsible Thinking Discipline Policy, send students to Responsible Thinking Classroom, and work with students to follow through on their individual responsible thinking action plans.
Professional Development
  • Participate in school-level planning, faculty meetings/ committees and other school system groups.
  • Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service educational activities and other professional growth activities.
  • Complete any other duties as assigned by Superintendent, Principal, or Assistant Principal.
