Position Overview:

We are looking for a Senior Packaging Structural Engineer to join our Stanley Packaging team. This role offers the opportunity to create packaging solutions that impress and satisfy our customers. The main responsibility will be to design and develop structurally sound packaging that supports our sustainability goals and brand guidelines. As the primary resource for all structural packaging solutions, in this senior role, you will lead in the collaboration with various teams and provide guidance to the packaging structural engineering team, which will be essential to successfully implement high-quality packaging solutions for our products. This is a full-time position based in our Seattle, WA office and a hybrid role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Position will have responsibility to manage/lead special projects as assigned by the Director of Packaging Engineering; provide technical support and guidance to the packaging structural engineering team
  • Ability to assist in prioritizing projects based on scope and urgency
  • Liaison for troubleshooting of packaging designs and materials with supply chain partners; responsible for providing feedback to the packaging structural engineering team to improve design practices and development processes
  • Lead supply chain continuous improvement efforts and provide technical assistance for packaging performance and process efficiencies
  • Maintain a strong understanding of cost-optimization principles for packaging design
  • Manage portfolio of packaging styles and material specifications as it relates to cost in order to meet budget goals
  • Develop innovative and visually appealing structural designs that are easy to set up and unbox
  • Develop designs that align with packaging brief documentation, sustainability goals, brand guidelines, and industry standards
  • Design and build structural die lines using ArtiosCAD for various paper substrates and corrugated materials
  • Build physical mockups using an automated cutting table for evaluation and performance testing
  • Document design process, material specifications, assembly instructions, and testing procedures
  • Maintain organized files and revisions for all design specifications
  • Provide technical training and oversight to help increase process efficiency
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Product Engineering, Product Management, Project Management, Supply Chain, Merchandise Sourcing, and Packaging Production Engineering
  • Stay updated on competitive market trends in packaging
  • Manage packaging engineering change processes and facilitate new solution implementation

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 6 years experience as a packaging engineer or senior packaging engineer
  • Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in Artios and Adobe Creative Suite; experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD and Keyshot rendering software preferred
  • Familiarity with TOPS or CAPE software
  • Understanding of corrugate, paperboard, and other packaging materials and processes
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes that impacts packaging design
  • Effective networking and communication skills
  • Understanding of point-of-sale and direct-to-consumer packaging requirements
  • Experience in a global environment, including Asia-based packaging suppliers, domestic packaging market, and various regions
  • Experience with packaging sample cutting table and prototype equipment
  • Experience with ISTA Transit Tests and retail customer requirements

Salary Range:

$125,000-$145,000

The base pay range for this position is for a successful candidate within the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on multiple factors, such as work location, job-related knowledge, skills, qualifications, and experience.
