Job Description
The Civil Division of the Anchorage Trial Court is accepting applications for Court Case Manager 1 positions (salary range 10). Successful applicants will serve as case managers responsible for file maintenance and processing of the TCA / Civil / Appeals / Small Claims case load.

* Employees working in this job classification will be considered for annual salary increases upon successful completion of a 1-year probationary period. This job classification will promote to salary range 11 after successful completion of three years of service with the court.


There are two (2) vacancies in the Civil / Appeals section and one (1) vacancy in the Trial Court Accounting section. The duties listed below reflect the duties of the sections separately, as the selected applicants will be assigned to a specific section.
Civil Division Duties:
  • Respond to a large variety of questions, following division standards, in person and by telephone;
  • Perform duties of other positions in the division for purposes of cross-training and to help with backlog that may occur;
  • Receive new filings for civil, domestic, small claims and appeal files and enter appropriate docket screen in CourtView case management system for each document; determine priorities and take appropriate action or route files accordingly;
  • Receive case files as they return from other offices; respond effectively to telephone and personal inquiries concerning general information and procedures as well as questions related to specific civil, domestic, small claims or appeal files;
  • Close case files when appropriate and make necessary computer entry; complete judgments by calculating interest and/or entering awards for costs and attorney fees; other duties as assigned.

Trial Court Accounting Duties:
  • Issue writs of execution and garnishment for the purpose of collection;
  • Receipt funds for garnishments, executions, research fees, fines, restitution, and direct payments;
  • May receive cash bail and bonds for data entry;
  • Research civil, criminal, probate, and small claims files and paperwork for proper documentation prior to release of funds; disbursement of funds will be done once banking rules and court rules have been met;
  • May balance the bank deposit with generated receipts and computer runs; prepare bank deposits from previous day's business to be forwarded to the bank;
  • May process NSF checks for collection;
  • Docket pleadings in CourtView and process accordingly;
  • Organize, maintain, and place pleadings in case files.
You must be able to operate a 10-key calculator by touch, have working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheets, and formulas.

The Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for these positions are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
