State of Alaska is Hiring a Court Visitor (ACS Contract) Near Multiple Locations, AK

The Alaska Court System is accepting applications from compassionate individuals to become Court Visitors in Anchorage, Juneau, Palmer, and Sitka.
The starting hourly rate of pay is $45.00. After one year of successful employment, the rate of pay may increase to $50.00 per hour. Scheduled hours will vary by caseload.
These are contracted positions with no benefits.
The ACS is required by Alaska Statute to provide court visitor services. The ACS contracts with individuals across the state to provide these services. A Court Visitor is appointed when a petition for adult guardianship or conservatorship is filed to investigate the involved person and their circumstances, and recommend to the court an appropriate resolution.
Court Visitors are reappointed every three (3) years to review and report to the court regarding existing guardianship and conservatorship cases. Court Visitors also participate in psychotropic medication proceedings in psychiatric facilities, and offer an opinion as to whether the patient has capacity to give or withhold informed consent for medications.
There is a mandatory 10-hour training that is reimbursed at the ACS training rate, however, given that Court Visitors are contractors, there is some unreimbursed training and administrative tasks.
A valid driver's license is required. Mileage reimbursement and parking provided if needed.
Ideal candidates should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities. Please detail these in the required letter of interest.
  1. Good listening skills, friendliness, patience, and tact.
  2. Excellent writing skills.
  3. Ability to work cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals, including people with significant physical and mental impairments and varying socio-economic backgrounds.
  4. Willingness to complete timely case reports on forms provided by the court.
  5. Ability to remain objective and non-judgmental in making reports to the court.
  6. Ability to hold information in confidence.
  7. Strong time management skills.
  8. Strong desire to help people and to further the goals of the monitoring project.
  9. Willingness to provide own transportation.
  10. Potential travel to make visits around the State of Alaska if needed.
