This position fulfills direct Information Services responsibilities to the citizens of Arkansas. In addition, the position serves as a professional subject matter expert for library professionals seeking to fulfill statewide requests for state and federal documents and Arkansas historical documents held in the Arkansas State Library collections. The position is tasked with maintaining a standard fulfillment period for information resources to state employees and Arkansas public libraries.Position InformationClass Code: C069C

Salary Range: $26,034.00 - $37,749.00
SummaryThe Library Technician is responsible for providing technical support to enable the delivery of library services. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
FunctionsAssists patrons by locating and checking materials or equipment in and out of the library, providing information and assistance regarding resources, and answering questions concerning the proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Researches library records and resources to ascertain availability of materials and provides information to library personnel or library patrons. Processes and prepares library materials for cataloging or circulation. Prepares materials for internal and external distribution by stamping or labeling and assigning and recording classifications information. Maintains written and computer records and files including acquisition, financial, bibliographic, interlibrary loan, serials control, cataloging, and classification of information. May oversees other assistants by training employees and reviewing work assignments. Performs other duties as assigned.
DimensionsOccasional lifting of heavy books and equipment is required.
Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of basic library procedures and practices. Knowledge of computers and their applications. Ability to operate general office equipment. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to read and follow instructions. Ability to stand and walk for long periods, to move book carts, and lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to stoop, bend and reach.
Minimum QualificationsThe formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience in a library environment. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
