Description Of JobThe Coordinator of First Year/ First Generation Student Programs will report to the Director of Programming and Leadership. The Coordinator of First Year/ First Generation Student Programs is responsible for developing and implementing tailored programming initiatives to support the academic and social needs of students with a focus on First year/First Gen students. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to create engaging events, providing mentorship and guidance to students, coordinating outreach efforts, evaluating program effectiveness, and staying informed about best practices in supporting diverse student populations. The ideal candidate will have a background in education, counseling, or student affairs, experience working with First year/First Gen students, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in higher education.
The coordinator ensures that the Student Affairs and Academic Affairs collaboration, programming, and relationship-building with students, staff, faculty, and community members run smoothly. The successful candidate is an independent thinker and planner that takes initiative to be part of the Student Engagement and Leadership team, interacts with the CSU Pueblo community, and provides nurturing support and encouragement to enhance diverse communities. This position will also assist with bilingual translation and marketing for families for the offices of Student Affairs.
This position is grant funded until fiscal year 2027. Continuation of the position beyond that date is contingent upon renewal of grant funding.
Primary DutiesStudent Culture and Equity
  • Supports programming efforts related to student spiritual development.
  • Develops various student culture and equity events, programs, and initiatives that support and empower BIPOC, LGBTQIA , high-financial need, undocumented students, and their various intersectional identities.
  • Supports Student Engagement identity-based student involvement and advocacy organizations in their ongoing efforts within the five schools with Student Engagement.
  • Coordinates Student Affairs and Academic Affairs collaborative programming for Living Learning Communities (LLC).
  • Serves as the liaison between faculty and staff in the LLC.
First Year/First Generation Student Support:
  • Provides comprehensive support and acts as a valuable resource for students during challenging times.
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and student organizations to create engaging and inclusive events and workshops that promote student success and retention.
  • Provides guidance to First year/First gen students, offering support in navigating academic resources, career development, and campus life.
  • Researches best practices and trends in supporting 1st year/1st gen students to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
Programming Development:
  • Facilitates the implementation of programming and communication initiatives specifically tailored to support the academic and social needs of First year/First Gen students, Student Organizations, and Greek Life.
  • Provides comprehensive support and acts as a valuable resource for students during challenging times.
  • Cultivates a welcoming environment and fosters a culture of empathy and support among students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Organizes and executes first-generation events by coordinating logistics with vendors, procuring supplies, managing contracts, and securing venues.
  • Generates reports for Student Development Dialogue/First year/First Generation.
  • Manages external communications such as newsletter, social media advertisement of events in this specific area, digest, digital signs, and website updates in partnership with SEAL pro-staff.
Liaison: Maintains effective working relationships and open communication with Campus Departments, other Student Affairs departments and other staff and faculty members.
Salary Range$47,000 - $55,000

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish
  • Four years of Higher Education experience working in university programming, campus events, Student Affairs, or collaborating with diverse communities within the university setting.
  • Experience with posting to and using social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
  • Experience in a position or activity that required organization, self-motivation, dependability and responsibility
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or Enrolled in a Master's Degree Program
  • Experience working with database systems and software such as Cascade, Monday.com, Constant Contact, Presence, Audience View, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro X, Canva
