Department InformationEngineering a world of possibilities The Trefny Innovative Instruction Center leads efforts on campus to promote evidence-based, inclusive teaching and learning at Mines through professional development opportunities for faculty, participation in teaching and learning initiatives at the institution, and supporting faculty research on effective teaching and learning. Our team supports efforts across all levels of the university to ensure that curriculum, instruction, and assessment are research-based, aligned, and supportive of all students.
The Fiscal and Operations Manager serves as a core member of the Trefny Center. This position provides management-level operational oversight and planning related to Trefny Center goals and priorities. The person serving in this position will work independently and in conjunction with the Trefny Center Director in planning, coordinating, implementing, and assessing operational and foundational accounts. They will organize and oversee Trefny Center meetings, events, and communications. In addition, they will serve as a liaison with other campus units including Mines Online. They will collaborate with Mines Online staff to provide coordination and ensure quality of thousands of high-quality educational and instructional videos. They will also oversee acquisition, maintenance, and management of Trefny Center equipment as well as shared (with Mines Online) multimedia equipment.
We are a small team that works together closely, and we also have strong relationships with faculty and other administrative units across campus. The Mines community is small and tight-knit, and people believe in the work. We find that the faculty who collaborate with us are enthusiastic about working together and excited to partner with teaching and learning experts. This position serves as a liaison with other campus offices and will have opportunities to make a meaningful impact at Mines.

This position reports to the Director of the Trefny Center and is a full-time, 12-month appointment. Please note that while fully remote work is not an option with this position, there is the potential for a flexible work schedule that includes a mix of days in the office and days working from home.
Description Of JobPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, update, monitor, and analyze budget income and expenses to provide information, recommendations, and alternatives to the Center Director for high-level, multi-year budget planning.
  • Represent the Trefny Center with decision-making and signature authority on purchases that may include operating funds, foundation funds, research funds, or labor funds.
  • Complete non-standard financial transactions and forms using judgment and interacting with Accounting, Budgeting, Payroll, and Purchasing staff as well as vendors.
  • Oversee Trefny Center meetings and events, as well as travel logistics.
  • Oversee communication, marketing content, and general administrative support.
  • Coordinate with Mines Online staff to manage shared multimedia resources including student workers (HIVE) and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Mines Online to manage details and keep multiple projects on track and at a high quality.
  • Provide customer service and technical support to clients.
Salary and Benefits $65,000 - $67,000.00 annually
Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.

  • Experience with Workday, Google Workspace, WordPress, Canvas, Marq, and Mailchimp or similar programs and software.
  • Evidence supervising or managing people, teams, and projects.
  • Experience communicating complex and technical information to a wide range of audiences.
Preferred QualificationsEducation and Experience:
  • Experience working with and leading committees consisting of diverse points of view.
  • Evidence of teamwork experience, relationship building, and staff development.
  • Experience with multimedia equipment including editing software.
  • Experience working in higher education.
