Description Of JobIf you love numbers, you may want to look into our Taxation Division Team ! The Taxation Division promotes voluntary compliance with all tax laws through education, assistance and customer service. The Sales Tax Accounting Section serves about 200,000 customers each year.
What We Do : The Sales Tax Accounting Section employs professionals serving as specialists in specific industries and are assigned claims which are significant in size and data from both individuals and businesses seeking a refund for Colorado’s sales and use tax. We are a part of the Taxation Division and our mission includes voluntary compliance with all Colorado state tax laws through information, education, assistance and customer service.
The Typical Day of an Technician III : The unit is actively seeking an Technician to analyze, log and track a large volume of correspondence for the Examiner Refunds Claims and Exemptions Unit and the Analyst Refunds Claims Unit. This position is responsible for capturing information on exemptions, assignment of those exemptions, and exemption processing as permissible. You can also expect to manage the order to meet the office’s needs for supplies, equipment, and software. You'll be joining a close-knit team who promotes team building and supporting each other. As a Sales Tax Accounting Team Member You Will
  • Providing practical technical support to customers and staff.
  • Analyzing incoming taxpayer correspondence, refund, tax status letter and applications received by mail, faxes and web messages to determine whether documents should be logged or routed to another division, section or unit.
  • Following the initial review it will decide what the documentation will be classified as and create work items.
  • Support Tax Examiners and Analysts within the Refund Units by maintaining a digital/virtual inventory cabinet which includes guidance on how to locate claims.
  • Creation and maintenance of office procedures, records and various inventories.
  • Responsible for assisting with office equipment and supply related expenditures for the Refunds, Protests and Distribution Accounting units.
  • Reviews, approves or denies applications for contractor's exemption certificates.

Minimum QualificationsMust meet one of the following or any combination of experience/education to meet the minimum (MQ) qualifications:
Option 1Three (3) years of experience providing technical support to customers and staff.
Technical Support Work Experience Is Typically Performed By Office Clerks And/or Administrative Assistants This Includes, But Is Not Limited To Tasks Such As
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service; interfacing with a variety of people from many levels within the organization and community.
  • Data Entry including: entering information into a program or database (appointments, contact information, customer records)
  • Regular, daily work responsibilities utilizing equipment and software used in offices i.e. Google Apps and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Regular, daily work responsibilities utilizing computer systems, scanners, printers, copiers, fax machines and other technologies
  • Typing professional emails, letters, reports, briefings, forms, memoranda, etc.
  • Reviewing and comparing data for accuracy and completeness. Gathering specified information and compiling routine reports
OR
Option 2One (1) year of experience providing technical support to customers and staff as described above.
ANDAssociates degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment (i.e., Business, Business Administration, Accounting, or as otherwise determined by the department).

SubstitutionsA combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to Three (3) years
Preferred QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
  • Prior experience using the state GenTax system
  • Experience reviewing Colorado Taxation form types and correspondence.
  • Experience handling a high volume workload.
  • Experience in keeping inventory and ordering of office supplies.
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to multitask several projects with a strong attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; to include communicating with others via verbal conversation and written communication.
Conditions Of Employment With The CDOREmployees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence.
As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy. Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations .
