EMPLOYMENT STARTS 08/01/2024 THROUGH 03/31/2025.

The mission of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources is to develop, preserve, and enhance the state's natural resources for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future citizens and visitors. The purpose of the work unit is to ensure all department financial entries are processed timely and appropriately in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), all State Fiscal Rules, Procedures, Statewide and Departmental Policies & Procedures, as well as various Federal Laws & Regulations. Work unit exists to support departmental and division management directives while processing required vendor payments, interagency payments, and revenue transactions. Proper recording ensures accurate and reliable reporting. The responsibilities include, but not limited to ensure all revenues and expenditures are properly recorded within the Colorado Legislative Long Bill and Colorado Revised Statutory Appropriations and against management budget. The unit oversees grant recording and revenue earning which is tied to expenditures and grant billing. The unit maintains the Department’s Capital Assets database and prepares all entries related to capital assets. The unit is responsible for testing division internal controls and coordinating internal and external audits related to fiscal management. In addition, the unit provides technical accounting support to the Department users of CORE and InfoAdvantage.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

This position provides technical support for the accountants in the payroll department.

Specific duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Recording employees in Colorado Personnel Payroll System (CPPS) and Kronos (timekeeping system).
  • Recording correction entries in CPPS.
  • Reporting payroll information to DNR Divisions.
  • Verifying information to prevent payroll errors.
  • Researching and resolving problems regarding entry into CPPS and Kronos for biweekly and monthly employees.
  • Responsible for entering direct deposit information, tax withholding and other employee deductions.
  • Ensures that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). applicable Federal law, State fiscal rules, Personnel Board Rules and Department policies.
  • Provides employees and management with information regarding timekeeping and payroll.
  • Collaborates with the Payroll team and Human Resources staff to recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Represent the department as requested at Department accounting/payroll joint meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week. Anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Previous experience in Payroll or accounting.

  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service.

  • Intermediate computer skills [required/preferred] (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite)

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team.

  • Have the internet capacity to work remotely.
