POSITION SUMMARY:

Join our quality assurance team in the Forensic Services Program Office! We are seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Assistant Quality Manager – Biology/DNA, reporting directly to the Forensic Quality Manager.

In this pivotal position, you will collaborate closely with both quality and operational management teams to assist in the overall function, performance, and integrity of the forensic quality assurance program. Your responsibilities will include direct supervision of the DNA Technical Leaders, developing and maintaining laboratory system policy and procedures, assisting with laboratory accreditation activities, coordinating internal audits, and addressing nonconformities within the laboratory system.

We are looking for someone who thrives on creativity, research, and data analysis, and who possesses the adeptness to engage directly with laboratory members as well as operational and quality management. Exceptional organizational skills, along with clear and compelling verbal and written communication abilities, are essential for success in this role.

NOTE: Can be located in any regional laboratory.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Direct supervising of the DNA Technical Leaders;
  • Overseeing the laboratory’s internal audit program for Biology and the DNA database;
  • Assisting with the organization of accreditation activities;
  • Directing the activities of members to ensure the general quality and efficiency of the work performed;
  • Monitoring adherence to the Forensic Science Quality Manual (FSQM), Laboratory Administrative Procedures Manual (LAPM), and disciplining SOPs to ensure that laboratory processes are well aligned with accreditation standards;
  • Coordinating with quality and operational management teams to establishes priorities;
  • Creating a collaborative working environment through open and effective communication with all members;
  • Addressing nonconformities in the Biology discipline and the DNA database; and
  • Performing other related duties as required by the Forensic Quality Manager, Director of Forensic Services or Special Agent in Charge.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forensic science, criminalistics or in a physical or natural science; completion of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Crime Laboratory Analyst training program in Biology/DNA or DNA Database (or a comparable training program); and three years of professional experience in a crime laboratory analyst class (or equivalent class).
  2. Professional experience in one of the disciplines for which the position will supervisecan substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of FDLE’s policies and procedures, laboratory policies and accreditation requirements;
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of quality assurance and quality control;
  • Knowledge of FDLE's selection criteria;
  • Skills in communicating with, leading, and motivating members;
  • Skills in appraising the performance of others;
  • Skills in communicating with the Chief of Forensic Services on laboratory and personnel matters;
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining cordial working relationships with contributor;
  • Ability to monitor the quality of work product;
  • Ability to coordinate repairs, preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain attendance and leave.

BASE SALARY:

  • $75,000.00

NOTES:

Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy. The elements of this selection process may include a work sample and/or interview. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement.
