POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department is seeking to fill an Executive Senior Attorney position within the Office of General Counsel in Tallahassee, Florida. FDLE’s Office of General Counsel (OGC) works closely with the department’s Command Staff, regional Special Agents in Charge, and Program Directors to provide legal assistance and advice that is responsive to the specialized needs of the department, region or division.
The OGC serves the entire agency in many different capacities such as advising agents regarding ongoing criminal investigations and criminal intelligence gathering, arrest and search warrants, and interception of oral communications. The OGC also provides legal support to the various program areas within the department as well as providing training on a variety of criminal law and procedure topics for FDLE’s Special Agents.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Incumbent advises the Office of Statewide Intelligence and serves as the Privacy Officer for the Florida Fusion Center. Incumbent reviews intelligence bulletins and other intelligence products for legal sufficiency and privacy considerations. Incumbent provides annual and ongoing training on statewide intelligence topics including Federal 28 CFR 23 requirements for criminal intelligence databases, as well as other privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties. Incumbent also advises the Investigations and Forensic Science (IFS) program area and assists Domestic Security Preparedness on legal matters, including the review of domestic security related contracts and legal issues related to disaster preparedness and response. Incumbent advises the Cyber Bureau in matters relating to cryptocurrency, network intrusion investigative matters, and electronic surveillance procedures. Incumbent reviews and analyzes legislation and assists in the preparation of the annual legislative summary.
Must have good computer skills, in particular, Microsoft Word, use of Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint. Must be an effective communicator and have a practical and workable understanding of the Florida criminal justice system, Florida Statutes, and the Florida Rules of Criminal and Civil Procedures. Must have the ability to effectively work under occasional stressful deadlines or circumstances. Must be able to clearly articulate and advocate one's position verbally and in writing.
Incumbent is based in Tallahassee in the FDLE Headquarters Building.

Legal work experience as a Florida prosecutor (Assistant State Attorney or Assistant Statewide Prosecutor); Preference will be given to candidates with Florida criminal law experience.
