ITD is hiring a Technical Engineer 2. The incumbent will perform advanced engineering design and analysis and mentor other engineers. This announcement will serve to fill multiple positions in the Bridge Section. The Technical Engineer 2 will serve as a statewide subject matter resource for the Bridge Section. This position will be located at our headquarters office in Boise. The Bridge Section has subject matter resources in the following bridge design areas - Concrete, Steel, Seismic, Load Rating, Hydraulics, and Accelerated Bridge Construction.
The successful candidate will have superior time management skills, be a self-starter, and have the ability to work well with others of differing viewpoints.
Note: A driver's record check is required before a final job offer is made. Some statewide travel is required.
Examples Of DutiesFocus Area:Bridge Design and Analysis
Engineering ResponsibilitiesBridge Design/Analysis (85%)
  • Bridge load rating.
  • Perform design and analysis of replacement bridges and rehabilitation of existing bridges.
  • Prepare specifications, cost estimates, and construction schedules.
  • Oversee plan preparation.
  • Provide independent and quality control check of others work.
  • Participate in bridge inspections and construction site visits as necessary.
  • Coordinate phases of engineering work with project team members which may include consultants.
Mentor (10%)
  • Assist in identifying bridge mentoring needs.
  • Mentor less experienced ITD staff.
  • Provide training to ITD staff as needed on AASHTO code changes, policy changes, new construction materials, etc.
Assist in the Development of Bridge Policies and Procedures (5%)
  • Review AASHTO code updates and comment on ITD’s behalf.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of ITD bridge design and load rating policies and procedures.
  • Develop ITD Highway Construction Specifications.
Minimum Qualifications: Licensure: Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE), or eligibility for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12 AND Valid Drivers license
Experience
  • Coordinating with state and local government operations in one of the specific engineering related to Bridge Design
  • Evaluating engineering projects and making decisions relative to their merit
  • Writing engineering reports and related correspondence
  • Reviewing and critiquing engineering analyses
  • Making oral presentations to groups, relative to the merits of engineering applications
Desired Qualifications
  • Registered PE in Idaho with a minimum 4 years post licensure experience with a demonstrated background in the identified Focus Area (Bridge Design and Analysis)
  • Experience in bridge design and load rating.
  • Experience using AASHTO and ITD bridge design codes and policies. (AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, ITD Bridge Design LRFD Manual, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, Idaho Manual for Bridge Evaluation)
  • Experience with bridge analysis software (AASHTO BrDR, Leap Bridge, LARSA, MDX, Excel, CSiBridge)
  • Familiar with CADD (Bentley Microstation / Open Roads Designer)
  • Completed coursework in reinforced and prestressed concrete design, steel design, and foundation engineering.
  • Familiar with ITD project development process.
  • Willing to travel periodically.
