Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for an energetic individual to serve as an Office Coordinator in the Health Care Unit at Decatur Correctional Center.

The ideal candidate will serve as secretary for the department by gathering confidential information concerning individuals in custody, analyzing / preparing reports, and gathering / inputting data.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as an administrative secretary, performs complex office support functions for the Health Care Unit Administrator.
  • Keyboards and edits reports, letters, and additional memorandum for the Health Care Unit Administrator.
  • Provides secretarial duties for the Health Care Unit Administrator.
  • Schedules and tracks training of Health Care Staff.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two (2) years of secretarial / business college experience OR completion of high school and two (2) years of related office experience or independent business experience.
  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 30 words per minute.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience in performing clerical duties.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience working in confidential setting.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience being able to manage day-to-day functions in a timely manner.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience in customer support for outside providers.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience problem-solving and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience with Microsoft Office Systems such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience collecting / providing data for auditing, projects, and / or reports.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience maintaining employee files.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience using standard office equipment such as printers, copiers, and fax machines.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC / IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
