We are seeking a dynamic and experienced communication leader to join our team as the Administrative Consultant in the Bureau of Communications. In this role, you will serve as the administrative lead and deputy public information officer, providing back-up to the Communications Director, leading the development of content creation efforts across the Department and providing direction to a high-functioning, multi-faceted team of communications professionals from project inception through completion. Our ideal candidate will have excellent editorial and project management skills.
Your Responsibilities
  • Support the Communications Director in developing and implementing public relations and media strategies and maintaining a public relations calendar.
  • Oversee the productivity of the communications team by delegating and assigning tasks to ensure timely completion while maintaining alignment with brand standards and data integrity across all channels and platforms.
  • In collaboration with the Communications Director, develop opportunities for the Department of Education to tell stories and oversee content creation across social media, websites, press releases, news stories, videos and newsletters.
  • Serve as lead editor for written and visual content. Lead the review, revision and delivery of content by providing direction to communication team members consisting of information specialists, web content managers, graphic designers, video producers and other content creators.
  • Develop and draft responses to media requests and talking points for interviews and speeches. Ensure accuracy of communications.
  • Oversee Freedom of Information Act requests and develop a process for review with the Communications Director and legal counsel.
  • Oversee and manage the Department of Education’s social media strategy across multiple platforms.
  • Analyze data and identify new strategies for reaching audiences to increase engagement.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft messages that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Display a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail and commitment by completing assignments efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate ability to work cross-functionally with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday; After hour and weekend availability, as needed, depending on the urgency of news developments.

Minimum Qualification RequirementsApplicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, and experience equal to five years of full-time, professional-level work in program administration, development, management, or operations.
  • A combination of a total of nine years of education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work may substitute for one year of full-time experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in social work, law, education, engineering, or public or business administration, and experience equal to three years of full-time, professional-level work in program administration, development, management, or operations.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as an Education Program Consultant.
