State of Iowa - Executive Branch is Hiring a Bridge Project Development Engineer (TEA) Near Ames, IA

Job DescriptionIowa Department of Transportation’s Mission is Making Lives Better Through Transportation . Location: Ames, IA
Shift Requirements: Days M-F, Flex Available
As a Transportation Engineer Associate, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Review routine final bridge plans and special provisions prepared by consultants to ensure compliance with Iowa DOT and AASHTO specifications for the Bridges & Structures Bureau.
  • Circulate plan set for review by field personnel, and other engineering bureaus, as appropriate, and follow up on any issues that are unclear.
  • Provide Supervisor with monthly project status updates on assigned projects to review progress and discuss obstacles to meeting targeted lettings.
  • Assist with quality assurance by monitoring design workflow checkpoints and oversight of critical project documentation for the Bridges and Structures Bureau.
  • Compare expectations of current Preliminary Bridge work deliverables, relative to completed and shelved work for projects that have been newly assigned to Final Design work units, to flag inconsistencies, particularly with file location and name.
  • Coordinate the review process and distribution of primary and interstate road system bridge and culvert shop drawings and various working drawings for miscellaneous construction plans.

Minimum Qualification RequirementsApplicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management.
  • Possession of a verification of graduation with major course work in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management.

Additional Qualification RequirementsApplicants hired with verification of graduation will be required to graduate with a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university within 10 months of hire.
RequiredWithin a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain one or more of the following certificates, licenses, or endorsements:
  • Certification as an engineer intern by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board
  • Licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board is required within 9 years for continued employment; temporary training assignments will terminate within six months following a second attempt to obtain a professional engineer license or nine years from date of hire.
