Job DescriptionThe Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking an individual to fill the role of Clerk Specialist within its Division of Intelligence.

The Department is a statewide law enforcement agency and includes the Administrative Services Division, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Iowa State Fire Marshal and the Division of Intelligence. The Department works in conjunction with federal, state and local jurisdictions of the criminal justice community to provide for the safety of persons living in, or traveling through the State of Iowa.

Job Duties
  • Serves as a contact person for the Iowa Information Sharing System by monitoring and handling information inquiries or assistance requests and information sharing products;
  • Applies and communicates rules and procedures to clients;
  • Gathers background information on requests and new reports to coordinate appropriate response;
  • Collects intelligence information and implements it per policy to the daily dissemination of information to stakeholders;
  • Verifies requests for information (RFI’s) are complete to determine appropriate handling and forward to the responsible team or analyst, or post to internal secure communication network, or handle as needed;
  • Assesses and prioritizes daily incoming information to determine incident rend similarities, urgency and appropriate distribution;
  • Maintains proper documentation of confidential submissions and new records through the Information Sharing systems, such as the Iowa Law Enforcement Intelligence Network (LEIN) on-line submissions, requests for technical equipment, and narcotics investigations or intelligence reports;
  • Reviews and verifies other information sharing products are properly also recorded in departmental intelligence files in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Reviews prior submissions to determine relevancy with new reports.
  • Audits historical reports as needed for compliance with state and federal regulations;
  • Compares similarities and facilitate information sharing by notifying impacted areas and advise LEIN regional special agent;
  • Monitors all incoming bulletins and requests coming into the intelligence program from local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies
Other InformationThe selected candidate must have passed a thorough background investigation conducted by Iowa Department of Public Safety investigators before a final letter of employment offer is delivered.

Minimum Qualification RequirementsExperience equal to three years of full-time clerical or closely related work;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalency or satisfactory completion of a recognized correspondence or formal job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level such as that offered by WIN, OEO, CEP, CIVEC or similar programs, for one year only of the required experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting nine months or thirty semester hours coursework in an accredited business school, college or university for each year of the required experience;
OR
certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of eighteen months of full time experience as a resident treatment worker or Clerk–Advanced.
