We do this by staying up-to-date with highway signing guidance, using it to design signs, and incorporating the designs into the Iowa DOT’s project plans. Want to join our team? We would prefer you have experience with Bentley MicroStation or other computer-aided drafting software products, but if you don’t, we can teach you.
As a Transportation Engineer Associate, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
Providing technical assistance to district staff – you’ll develop your knowledge of all things related to signing.
Preparing project plans for two statewide sign programs – you’ll make decisions about what signs say and where they get placed.
Working with the DOT’s sign shop to create the signs – you’ll have input on whether the signs are just right.
Location: Ames Shift Requirements: Days, typically Monday-Friday, but flexible scheduling is available. Telework option. Some travel. What We Offer YOU

Minimum Qualification RequirementsApplicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management.
Possession of a verification of graduation with major course work in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management.

Certification as an engineer intern by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board
Licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board is required within 9 years for continued employment; temporary training assignments will terminate within six months following a second attempt to obtain a professional engineer license or nine years from date of hire.
