Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field of study and 1-3 years full-time experience in media or public relations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in media/public relations, writing and communications skills
  • Experience in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, strong analytical and creative problem solving skills

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with departments and personnel throughout the university to remain informed about programs, services, events, accomplishments and individuals that can be promoted, publicized and highlighted to increase public awareness of excellence and achievements at the university and underscore Northwestern State's reputation as an innovative leader in higher education.
  • Assist with generating media coverage and assist with public relations initiatives and projects that include producing and disseminating creative news releases, feature stories, indepth profiles on faculty, staff, students and alumni, coordinating interviews and promotion of the university through social media, visual projects and internal and external publications
  • Assist with research, writing, editing and compiling information and materials for a variety of publications, including magazines, brochures and publications for recruitment, fund raising and program development
