Job Description:

This is advanced office support and clerical work focused on detecting unplanned incidents and being aware of planned incidents on the transportation network for the purpose of communicating this information for incident management and informing the public’s safety and mobility decisions. Responsibilities include accurately communicating emergency and non-emergency information to public agencies, Maine DOT field personnel, and the public; dispatching the appropriate units when weather, safety, and traffic events occur; and determining traffic obstacles and necessary emergency responders. This classification is distinguished from the Transportation Management Center Specialist I by its responsibilities for performing advanced functions on the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) software and providing training and direction to TMC Specialist I positions. Work is performed under limited supervision.

Responsibilities include:

  • Transportation Management Center Specialist II positions are expected to perform all the duties of a Transportation Management Center Specialist I, plus the following:
  • Retrieves and prepares radio and phone recordings from TMC software for dissemination by the TMC Manager to communicate transportation related information and updates.
  • Retrieves standard reports from the ATMS for review by TMC manager and other department personnel to inform on TMC operations.
  • Maintains ATMS email database and TMC work instructions to keep information and procedures current.
  • Creates Changeable Message Sign (CMS) message libraries to promote consistent public communications.
  • Creates ATMS quick events, Polygon Geographic Areas, pre-defined response plans, and new roads in ATMS to streamline TMC operations and maintain accurate records.
  • Updates the MaineDOT Winter Book annually to promote consistent seasonal procedures.

This position will work 12 hour shifts with the following schedule per two-week period: 
Monday/Tuesday - off 
Wednesday/Thursday - on 
Friday/Saturday/Sunday - off 
Monday/Tuesday - on 
Wednesday/Thursday - off 
Friday/Saturday/Sunday - on 
This amounts to 84 hr per pay period (4 hours overtime) The schedule allows for three day weekends every other weekend and opportunities for overtime. 

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

Education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in radio dispatch communications, law enforcement, public safety, or transportation requiring the use of radio telecommunications equipment -OR- demonstrated experience working with the public, providing customer service, or executing customer relations activities in a lead role using radio telecommunications equipment.
