Introduction

Main Purpose of Job

To teach Computer Sciences, Graphic Design, Yearbook, Photography and other Digital Arts classes to deaf and hard of hearing 8th - high school students as a part of MSD’s Career Technical Education (CTE) program.

POSITION DUTIES

TeachDigital Arts and Computer Sciences classes to thrive creativity and digitalliteracy among students and introduce students to potential careers in thefields of graphic design, photography, and computer sciences.Provideexpertise in the area of graphic design and computer sciences; provideinstruction using such as but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite andprogramming languages such as Python and JavaScript.Coordinateschool-wide events relevant to digital media and yearbook projects.Preparelesson plans, reports, and keep records of student progress; ascertain learningneeds of students and establish evaluation techniques for assessment ofprogress.Collaboratewith classroom teachers in development of IEP goals and objectives.Practice bilingual education and concepts with allstudents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Bachelor's degree and Maryland State Department of Education certification asK-12 Deaf Education or Computer Science teacher or the ability to obtain suchcertification soon after hire is required.Fluency in ASL and written English; knowledge of theDeaf Community and the ability to teach or work with students of differenteducational backgrounds and additional disabilities is required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master'sDegree in Graphic Design, Computer Sciences, or equivalent; experience as aclassroom teacher.Professional training, work experience, andcertifications with Adobe Creative Suite Software such as Adobe CertifiedAssociate (ACA) or Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) and/or certifications in codingand programming such as Microsoft Certified.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
