Introduction
The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland's $46 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers' and insurance professionals' compliance with State law. Through the diligence of a highly professional staff of market analysts, financial analysts, accountants, lawyers, law enforcement officers, actuaries, complaint investigators, and others, the MIA works to facilitate a strong and competitive insurance marketplace where consumers are well informed and treated fairly. Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and other public and private entities.
The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners, and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law. The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.

LOCATION OF POSITION
Baltimore City (hybrid or potential for 100% telework after successful completion of initial training).
POSITION DUTIES
The MIA is recruiting to fill a Compliance Analyst I position in the Life and Health Division's, PRA/Medical Director Unit. A Compliance Analyst I is the beginning level of work reviewing and analyzing Private Review Agent (PRA) applications submitted by PRAs to determine compliance with applicable Maryland statutes and regulations. This position drafts detailed and accurate memoranda to the PRAs outlining the necessary revisions that are required to comport with applicable Maryland statutes and regulations to obtain the Maryland PRA certification. The Compliance Analyst I will also review and analyze all filed updates to a PRA's scope of responsibility under a contract to determine compliance with the applicable Maryland statutes and regulations, and will draft memoranda outlining revisions required; or will draft memoranda to the certified PRA acknowledging receipt of updates to its scope of responsibility. This position responds to inquiries from the public, and other external and internal customers regarding PRA requirements and related issues; reviews medical director applications for completeness, as needed; and participates in the completion of special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None
Note: Two years of experience in the review or preparation of Private Review Agent applications may substitute for the required education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Ability to convey information clearly, both orally and in writing.
•Ability to understand, interpret and analyze applicable laws.
•Excellent computer skills.
