Help play an important role in the health of Minnesotans by joining the Minnesota Cancer Reporting System (MCRS). MCRS provides comprehensive statewide cancer surveillance and reporting for Minnesota.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

Review and detailed abstraction of cancer registry data.

Compliance with state and national reporting regulations.

MCRS liaison for assigned hospital registries and pathology labs.

Work may be conducted in-person in St. Paul, or as telework for applicants who reside in MN, IA, WI, ND, or SD, based on the business needs of the unit and supervisor discretion. Position location will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out of the closest MDH office location. Attendance to in person quarterly meetings in St. Paul is required and there will be additional periodic requirements in office based on the business needs of the unit and supervisor discretion.

**Minimum Qualifications**

Experience:

One (1) year experience working as a cancer registrar in either a hospital or central cancer registry.

Certification/Licensure:

Certification by the National Cancer Registrar's Association (NCRA) as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C).

OR

Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in one of the following:

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

OR

Registered Nurse

Must possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse license.

Knowledge and abilities to be assessed at interview:

Knowledge and understanding of different cancer treatment modalities.

Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, cancer pathophysiology, cancer staging and coding, and cancer registry systems.

Ability to read pathology/cytology reports and identify and understand implications of results related to cancer diagnoses, treatment, and prognostic factors (i.e., tumor biomarkers, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry results).

Verbal and written communication skills sufficient to present information in plain language to varied audiences.

**Preferred Qualifications**

Certified as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C).

Experience using and assessing cancer registry software programs.

Experience with data abstraction.

Experience in reviewing, processing, and interpreting large volumes of similar material via computer screen or paper copy, matching records, detecting discrepancies, and making correct adjustments accurately and rapidly.

**Additional Requirements**

Must successfully pass a background and reference check.

This employment does not require a valid driver's license, but it does demand occasional travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.

The successful candidate under U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services regulations must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.
