Teleworking employees are required to live in Minnesota or a bordering state in a county along the Minnesota state line.
This position will require overnight travel and occasionally include working 7 days a week on an irregular basis.
The purpose of this position is to advance the Department of Revenue' s mission to achieve compliance with Minnesota Tax Laws. Specialists in this position will provide service to internal and external customers necessary to determine proper compliance with all provisions of the Minnesota Cigarette, Tobacco, and Alcohol excise tax provisions.
In particular, the focus of this position is to fulfill the Department of Revenue's inspection functions related to the cigarette, alcohol, and tobacco excise tax program. Inspections consist of visiting establishments offering cigarette, tobacco, and alcohol products for sale, identifying violations to Minnesota statutes and rules.
This position required substantial fieldwork, with a majority of the working time in the field. Travel will be required throughout the entire state, with a majority of the time assigned to the metro area with regular field trips into greater Minnesota.
The candidates hired and new to this job classification may be eligible to receive a $5,000 hiring bonus! This bonus will be paid in two increments, with the first payment made after successfully passing the probationary period.

One (1) year of professional-level accounting or auditing experience
AND
Any of the following from an accredited college or university:
OR
Certification (satisfactory completion of probation) as a Revenue Tax Specialist
Must have reliable transportation or a valid class D driver's license
Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following:
Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer up to 20 pounds.
Prior to an offer of employment, a background check will be conducted. This will include, but is not limited to checking degrees and licensures, criminal history, and tax filing and payment history. All individual income tax filing and payment obligations must be current prior to interviewing for this position.
