State of Missouri is Hiring an EHE Epidemiology Specialist -4812099 Near Columbia, MO

Job Location: This position will be located at 900 West Nifong, Suite 215, Columbia, MO 65203. Hybrid work arrangement available after satisfactory onboarding.

The Bureau of HIV, STD, and Hepatitis within the Section for Disease Prevention provides HIV, sexually transmitted infection (STI), and Viral Hepatitis education targeted to the general public, those at risk for infection, and clinical providers; access to HIV, STI, and Viral Hepatitis prevention and testing services; increased access to HIV, STI, and Viral Hepatitis care and treatment.

You will be part of a passionate team working together on four key strategies that, implemented together, can end the HIV epidemic in the U.S.: Diagnose, Treat, Prevent, and Respond. This position contributes to ending the HIV epidemic in Missouri by locating and ensuring HIV positive persons who are lost to care, never in care, or newly diagnosed receive access to HIV care and education.


What you’ll do:

  • Responsible for Ending the HIV Epidemic program activities such as conducting routine epidemiologic functions comprising of data collection, data analysis using basic epidemiologic methods, assistance with HIV investigations, and work towards linking all Missourians living with HIV to care
  • Assess client for Ryan White services eligibility and assist with enrollment if eligible; work closely with bureau Quality Service Managers and contracted Ryan White linkage to care teams.
  • Assist in the design and development of intervention strategies, policies and procedures, evaluation, and behavioral/clinical interventions
  • Interview clients; assist in completing application for services; and collect basic data and obtain appropriate additional information from other agencies (as needed)
  • Develop linkage to care and an individual support plan for each newly diagnosed, lost to care or never in care person living with HIV
  • Assist in monitoring linkage to care services to ensure that the terms of the authorization are being fulfilled by the vendor, check on the quality of services, and review client progress
  • Re-engage clients who are no longer in care; assess for Ryan White eligibility and ensure access to HIV-related care and medications
  • Conduct or assist in in-depth investigations of disease clusters using epidemiologic methods, including gathering information
  • Exercise significant independence and initiative in the performance of responsibilities
  • Travel throughout the state will be required to locate individuals diagnosed with HIV/STIs, exposed to HIV/STIs or at risk for HIV/STIs


All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two or more years of relevant professional experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a working knowledge of public health functions and essential services.
  • This position requires professionalism, excellent attention to detail, initiative, flexibility, discretion, and the strict maintenance of confidentiality.
  • The candidate should be comfortable with having sexually explicit discussions with the individuals served through the partner services program and be able to relay medical information about STD/HIV transmission to staff, the general public, and medical providers.
