State of Missouri is Hiring a Prevention Services Coordinator Near Jefferson, MO

This position will be responsible for the overall coordination and quality assurance of prevention and harm reduction programs, including the supervision of staff. The Prevention Services Coordinator will focus on policy and best practices, manage current and new funding to meet the ongoing needs in system infrastructure, assist in developing the necessary prevention workforce, and provide leadership and expertise in the areas of substance use prevention, harm reduction, suicide prevention, mental health wellness, and Veterans services. The ability to apply for and manage current and future funding in order to sustain and implement evidence-based prevention and harm reduction services in Missouri is an important focus of this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the development, coordination, implementation, and maintenance of prevention and harm reduction programing and/or services through the development and interpretation of policy and procedures; monitoring and reporting program accomplishments; and understanding evidence-based practices.
  • Mentors, trains, and supervises a team responsible for substance use prevention, primary prevention, suicide prevention, harm reduction, and Veterans services.
  • Presents to advocacy groups, civic and community organizations, and/or contractors to inform them of prevention program goals and services, and to enlist their cooperation in program activities.
  • Oversees Zero Suicide Health Systems grant, First Responders-Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act grant, Prescription Drug Overdose grant, Partnerships for Success grant, and other prevention related funding sources.
  • Prepares proposals and reports for various Federal grants and other funding sources.
  • Provides leadership to the Missouri Suicide Prevention Network (MSPN) and works in partnership with MSPN and Missouri Behavioral Health Council (MBHC) to create and oversee implementation of the State Suicide Prevention Plan. Work at the state level to develop, promote, and improve policies and procedures related to suicide prevention.
  • Oversees the coordination of Missouri’s Suicide Prevention Conferences and other statewide prevention conferences in conjunction with Missouri Behavioral Health Council.
  • Collaborates with Director of Public Affairs to answer media requests for interviews and information.
  • Serves on and participates in crisis-related, primary prevention, harm reduction, and suicide prevention workgroups and taskforces.
  • Oversees collaboration with marketing companies to create and market prevention campaigns such as adult and youth suicide prevention and substance use prevention.
  • Provides technical assistance, training, and information to Prevention Resource Centers and 988/Access Crisis Intervention (ACI) hotline providers.
  • Manages Suicide Prevention webpage and create suicide prevention social media posts as well as substance use prevention/harm reduction webpage and posts.
  • Conducts meetings, conferences, presentations and exhibits on suicide prevention, crisis services and 988.
  • Oversees the coordination and development of strategic plans related to Prevention Resource Centers and Community Coalitions.
  • Oversees the coordination of annual prevention provider reviews and ensure compliance with standards and contract requirements.
  • Reviews/approves contractor invoices; track budgets and spending.
  • Oversees the coordination of tobacco Synar Amendment and merchant education activities.
  • Oversees data collection efforts related to prevention and harm reduction activities (Block Grant, State Opioid Response grant, data book, etc.).
  • Oversees the statewide policy development, implementation, and operation of supportive services for service members, veterans, and their families.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required skills:

Applicants must be well organized and able to successfully manage multiple work priorities. This position requires existing knowledge of expertise around prevention and harm reduction policies, procedures and regulations or the ability and willingness to develop expertise in this area. Professional oral and written communication skills are essential. Sound judgement and strong critical thinking skills are needed to be successful in this role. The ideal candidate must have the ability to collaborate with others and work as a team player.

Eligibility:

Bachelor’s degree and 4-7 years of relevant experience. Substitutions may be allowed. Professional experience working in suicide prevention, substance use prevention, Mental Health First Aid, Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution (OEND), or primary prevention is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have experience with grant management.

Domicile:

This position is domiciled at Central Office in Jefferson City. This position may require travel with overnight stays when necessary. Distributed work considered, however, weekly in-office presence required.
