Job Location: Central Missouri. Successful applicant must reside in Barton, Dade, Stone, Jasper, Lawrence, Cedar, Vernon or be willing to relocate. Surrounding counties may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Why You’ll Love This PositionAs a consumer, you’re protected by the Missouri Weights, Measures and Consumer Protection Division every time you shop. The division ensures the accuracy of all commercial weighing and measuring devices in Missouri. This is accomplished through an annual inspection of all commercial weighing and measuring devices. Any device used to determine the price of a commodity stands to be tested and certified by a weights and measures official. Whether it is a scale used in a grocery store, at a farmer’s market, or at a roadside produce stand, the device should bear an approval seal from the Weights, Measures and Consumer Protection Division. Perform annual inspections on all commercial weighing devices in your assigned territory (Bates, St. Clair, Barton, Dade, Cedar, Stone, Jasper, Lawrence, Vernon, Newton, McDonald and Barry counties).
Conduct Egg Quality Inspections at egg dealer locations, egg processing plants, and egg retail facilities.
Perform milk inspections at processing and retail locations.
Conduct price verifications, package inspections.
Prepare and submit weekly activity reports, inspection reports, and all other official documentation as required. .
Maintain a state vehicle and assigned inspection equipment.
Plan and schedule daily travel in assigned region to achieve established program goals, and represent the Department in a professional manner at all times.
Other duties as assigned.
This position requires daily travel in assigned territory and sometimes overnight travel as deemed necessary. State vehicle provided.Minimum Qualifications
Two or more years of experience involving public contact; AND
Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Ability to learn and have a working knowledge of state and federal statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to weights and measures.
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) or Four (4) year degree in an agriculture related or criminal justice field
Self-motivated, hardworking individual
Good communication skills (both verbal and written), math skills, reading comprehension
Maintain good judgment and decision-making skills; good critical thinking skills and high integrity.
