Job Description:
The Nebraska Correctional Center for Women is seeking a Unit Manager candidate who models the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) values of integrity, respect, compassion, growth, and excellence as we accomplish our mission, "Keep people safe."

Duties:
•Ensure all departmental and institutional policies and procedures are implemented as to provide acceptable security, sanitation and case management functions on the designated housing unit.
•Supervise and evaluate case managers and caseworkers
•Schedule team member leave time.
•Ensure assigned team members receive required training.
•Chair the Unit Classification Committee and the Unit Disciplinary Committee.
•Participate as a member of the Institutional Disciplinary Committee.
•Ensure all grievances are investigated and processed in a timely fashion as defined by procedure.
•Approve/deny in-house incarcerated individual's moves.
•Review incarcerated individual special purchases.
•Coordinate unit staff meetings.
•Coordinates incarcerated individual treatment plans to ensure timely follow-up on programs enrolled in and proper referral to needed programs and diagnostic assessment including self betterment, chemical dependency, mental health, medical, academic, and vocational, or special referrals.
•Ensure all grievances are investigated and processed in a timely fashion as defined by procedure.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications : A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, behavioral sciences, human services or a related field and one year of corrections experience, including supervisory experience; OR Associate's degree in criminal justice, behavioral sciences, human services or related field and three years of corrections experience, including supervisory experience; OR five years of corrections experience, including supervisory experience. No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.
Preferred Qualifications : Experience working in NDCS Custody and/or Unit Management. Bilingual English/Spanish desired and assessed.
Other : Transcripts required prior to appointment. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of supervisory and management techniques; the unit management concept; institutional and departmental policy and procedure counseling methods; incarcerated individual/offender rehabilitative programs; acceptable sanitation and food service standards; caseload management.
Ability to supervise all the activities of a unit; monitor and evaluate legal offender rehabilitative progress; judge when and to what extent the intervention of security staff is needed; communicate effectively with incarcerated individual/offenders of diverse ethnic, racial and educational backgrounds; train and delegate subordinate unit personnel; work closely with the unit management team to accomplish incarcerated individual/offender rehabilitative objectives.
