Position is a correctional Case Manager located at NC Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh, which houses approximately 1,776 of minimum, medium, or close custody female offenders.

Position reports to the Program Supervisor or Program Director I. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide counseling and will complete and update case management assessments and plans. Must meet with each inmate on caseload at least bi-monthly, enter contact notes, and submit timely classification reviews.
  • Ensure that all components of caseload are met, including but not limited to: orientation of inmates, blood borne pathogens training of inmates, reports, inspections, graduations and recognition events, correspondence, transfer request, job and program assignment requests, emergency leaves, crisis intervention, security risks, nature of crime, length of sentence, time left to serve, infraction history, work history, vocational skills training, academic education, anger management, cognitive behavior intervention, substance abuse treatment, pending charges and/or detainers and security threat group affiliation.
  • Address in each inmates’ assessment plan the following: victim, sobriety, family mental health, sex offender, employability, education, life skills, physical/medical condition, housing, transport, financial and legal issues.
  • Balance attempts at self-help and rehabilitation with the overall safety, security, management, supervision, protection and custody of the inmates.
  • Certified and will assist in any needed custody-related duties to include inmate medical, court trips, site checks, Work Release, and Community Volunteer Programs.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.
About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW), in Raleigh, is the state's primary correctional facility for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state's other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safekeepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders.

The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document in the work experience section of the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
