Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing preventive and routine corrective maintenance tasks and ensuring that assigned systems, equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe and efficient manner at a multi-custody female correctional facility. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Performing at the journey level in a mechanical trade with experience in at least one or more other trade areas to perform work assignments. Ensuring assigned systems within the correctional facility and support buildings are maintained in a safe and efficient manner. Performing ongoing preventive maintenance and continuous repair of water/piping systems throughout the facility which includes pneumatic mixing valves, domestic water systems, non-potable water systems, heating/cooling piping, and boiler. Replacing and repairing commodes, sinks, water coolers, water heaters, garbage disposal, dishwasher, shower valves, water faucets, flush valves, and other related fixtures and equipment. Supervising the work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labor (including offenders) to assist in completing assigned tasks and provide support to other staff members performing trade skills during preventive maintenance or other duties assigned by the supervisor as deemed necessary.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

 
About North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW)

North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW), in Raleigh, is the state's primary correctional facility for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state's other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safekeepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders.
The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document in the work experience section of the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Documented working knowledge of commercial and/or industrial maintenance.

Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
