State of South Carolina is Hiring a Statistician II - 61065691 Near Columbia, SC

Job ResponsibilitiesThe Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office is seeking applicants for a Statistician II position with a health, statistics, math, or demographic background and a desire to continue learning and growing in a fast-paced agile environment. Under general supervision, performs professional level statistical activities encompassing research and survey design, complex statistical analysis, and data quality products. The incumbent will also maintain data and files in compliance with state and federal privacy laws. Responsibilities Of The Statistician IIThis position is responsible for the collection, management, and analysis of data, including the design and development of research and visual analytics using Tableau and SAS software in compliance with federal and state laws. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Creates monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports using Medicaid claims data that meets client needs using primarily SAS. Continually runs quality control checks and reports any issues back to RFA supervisor to assure data quality and completeness. Provides program reporting to guide decision making. Accesses and uses data to fulfill authorized job duties or activities for the State, in adherence to policies and guidelines pertaining to data protection. Reports actual or suspected breaches or vulnerabilities in the confidentiality, integrity, or availability to the appropriate authorities.
  • Using SAS software, develops patient-level statistical databases by linking setting-specific patient-level data to meet client needs. Accesses and uses data to fulfill authorized job duties or activities for the State, in adherence to policies and guidelines pertaining to data protection.
  • Acts as primary backup to other data housed in the SC Integrated Data System as assigned. Accuracy and normalization of data is validated through ongoing testing via automated and visual inspection against established coding standards and benchmarks. Coordinates efforts with manager, staff, and appropriate agency submitting data. Accesses and uses data to fulfill authorized job duties or activities for the State, in adherence to policies and guidelines pertaining to data protection.
  • Assists in all stages from design to completion of visual dashboards using SAS, Tableau, and other agency tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is eligible for telecommuting with SC residency.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a health, statistics, math, or demographic field with 12 hours of course work in statistics and experience performing statistical work.
  • Significant experience with computer programming, personal computer (PC) software, and visual analytics.

  • Statistical Analysis System (SAS) experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer system analysis and visual analytics with Tableau, SAS or other statistical package.
