The Governor's Office of Economic Development is seeking a results orientated person to lead our Marketing Team. The Team is currently responsible for promoting South Dakota's growing economic climate through multiple media and is responsible for the communications and public relations functions of the GOED. This position is responsible for managing vendor contracts and reporting on past, present, and future marketing activities.
The Ideal Candidate Will HaveA bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or related field; five or more years experience in a progressive role; and previous supervisory experience.
Knowledge Of

• marketing tactics across all media including print, digital, social, out of home;
• photo and video editing software capabilities;
• economic development and government processes;
• emerging trends and new technologies which can be deployed to increase the performance of marketing campaigns;
• effective leadership tactics.

Skills In

• negotiating contracts and be able to present clear, accurate information to external and internal stakeholders;
• selling South Dakota and all the state has to offer;
• expert writing skills including speech-writing;
• interpreting marketing data and analysis;
• problem solving, being a creative lead, and thinking academically.

Ability To

• manage vendor contracts, budgets, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously;
• speak publicly while attending public relations events representing South Dakota;
• set high standards and lead by example;
• recognize strengths of individual team members and utilize those skill sets to their utmost capability.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
