The Transportation Specialist I (Transit Specialist) is responsible for the oversight of public transportation providers throughout South Dakota as well as statistical analysis concerning financial and operational data. Duties include, but are not limited to reviewing grant applications; revising budgets as needed; conducting program reviews for public transit providers to ensure compliance with regulations; reviewing plans submitted by providers; grant tracking and payments; project monitoring; development of program reports; technical direction to program users; assist in the develop of program manuals and other duties as assigned.

The total compensation of Hourly Wage State/Federal Benefits for a typical year for entry level Transit Specialist is approximately $81,731.00 annually.
The Ideal Candidate Will HaveA degree in Business, Finance or Public Administration or related experience in statistical analysis, budgeting and grant management
Knowledge Of
  • federal grant process and administration;
  • federal rules and regulations governing grant oversight and compliance;
  • computer programs for data tracking and analysis.
Skill To
  • analyze financial and statistical information;
  • communicate effectively with providers and state/local government officials;
  • solve complex funding issues;
  • operate various computer hardware/software, including Microsoft Excel and Access.
Ability To
  • attend to all details of assignments and complete work properly, accurately, and thoroughly;
  • treat customers courteously and be responsive to their needs;
  • work cooperatively with others and promote a friendly work climate in order to achieve shared goals;
