Job Overview:

The Tennessee Department of Education's Connected Literacy Family and Partner Liaison is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Connected Literacy: Engaging Parents as Partners grant project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Rethinking K-12 Education Models grant. The Connected Literacy project's main goal is to accelerate literacy development by providing vital early-grade literacy support for our youngest students (grades K-3) through high-dosage, low-ratio tutoring. Connected Literacy has provided high-quality ELA tutoring to over 13,000 students across 8 community partners and is working to provide tutoring to an additional 7,000 students during the 2024-25 school year. Connected Literacy tutoring has significantly improved literacy outcomes for participating students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as primary point of contact for families of students participating in the program, working with families and students in both English and Spanish.
  2. Manage family 'matching' with providers, in collaboration with the Grant Manager.
  3. Assist families in English and Spanish with the enrollment and registration process.
  4. Participate in observations of vendor/student literacy sessions.
  5. Troubleshoot difficulties with the family survey.
  6. Provide program and partner support to Connected Literacy Grant Manager.
  7. Support the Connected Literacy Advisory Committee (consisting of families and educators) in collecting input on services provided in the initial list of approved providers and throughout the project.
  8. Connect families with the department's literacy resources including the Interactive Decodable At-Home Reading series and Toolkits for Families.
  9. Provide virtual presentations to families and community partners - sharing a suite of family resources and targeted supports.
  10. Engage regularly with families to foster relationship building.
  11. Work closely with Connected Literacy Community Partners and districts to support families and students in tutoring.
  12. Provide high levels of customer service and technical assistance for families.
  13. Translate family resources from English to Spanish to allow more families access to information.
  14. Work across the Department with the Family Resource Center, Literacy, and Communications team to ensure alignment and resource-sharing department-wide.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold at least a bachelor's degree in a related field.

Required Experience:

Preferred minimum of three years of experience in education or related field.
