State of Utah is Hiring a Fort Douglas Museum Manager Near Salt Lake, UT

Are you passionate about military history and museum management? The Utah National Guard is seeking a dynamic and experienced Museum Manager for the Fort Douglas Military Museum. This is a unique opportunity to lead museum operations, manage staff and volunteers, and develop engaging exhibits and programs.
This is a 12-month time-limited position and is subject to funds availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily museum operations
  • Manage staff and volunteers
  • Develop long-range plans and fundraising strategies
  • Coordinate with various agencies and organizations
  • Oversee marketing, public relations, and collection management
  • Plan and install exhibits
  • Execute educational and event programs
  • Ensure physical security and facilities management
  • Coordinate living history events
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in public history or museum management
  • Supervisory experience
  • Marketing and public relations expertise
  • Experience in exhibit development

The Agency
Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP):
3 medical plan options. Choose a Traditional or High Deductible Health Plan. There is an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those who have other medical insurance coverage.
5 dental plan options, with an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those that have other dental insurance coverage.
4 vision plan options under EyeMed or OptiCare
Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
Paid Time Off:
Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
We have 12 paid holidays.
Example of Duties:
Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems, makes adjustments, repairs and/or performs preventative maintenance on computers, vehicles, equipment, or machinery, etc.
Backs up computer data periodically to prevent unwanted data losses.
Provides assistance and/or on-the-job training.

Example of Duties

Other duties that may be part of this position are:

  • Develop joint museum activities with outside agencies, such as the US Army of Military History; National Guard Bureau; Utah Division of Arts and Museums; Utah Division of History; and the Foothill Cultural District.
    Provides assistance and/or on-the-job training.
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates one or more large, complex projects.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the Fort Douglas Military Museum Association to coordinate support for the museum.
  • Recommends use of funds for the purchase, restoration, or conservation of collections to upgrade and maintain their integrity.
  • Writes or drafts technical reports, articles or related material based on research, investigation, or analysis.
  • Coordinates group visitor activities, and conducts lectures and group tours.
  • Adapt agency program(s) to meet specific needs or concerns.
  • Develops or modifies rules, policies, standards, etc.
  • Monitors agency or program budget including revenues, expenditures and budget projection, etc.

The typical office setting for this job is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, you may encounter some risks that are associated with any office setting, for example, the safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
