OverviewThe Drinking Water and Groundwater Protection Division is seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to supervise their dynamic Engineering Section.
You will be overseeing and working closely with a highly functioning team of five Environmental Engineers. Your work will be focused on making technical and policy decisions as they relate to public drinking water system engineering work, supporting staff in their day-to-day work, optimizing existing work processes, coordinating work between internal and external staff and partners, and identifying and promoting programmatic and regulatory improvements to better serve our regulated community.

TeleworkThe Agency of Natural Resources and drinking water program has an employee-friendly telework policy, requiring staff (once trained) to work from the office as little as a few days a month. The rest of the days, staff are welcome to work in the office as they wish or work from their productive home offices.
MissionThe mission of the Drinking Water and Groundwater Protection Division is to protect human health and the environment for this and future generations by managing Vermont's drinking water supplies; protecting the quality and quantity of Vermont's groundwater resources; and regulating wastewater disposal activities that could adversely affect groundwater. The Division accomplishes this mission through its outreach, education, assistance and regulatory activities.
As of July 14, 2024 the step 1 rate for pay grade 26 will be $31.76 per hour.

Environmental FactorsDuties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree or higher in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering AND four (4) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.
OR
Bachelor's degree in environmental, sanitary, chemical, water resources, civil or mechanical engineering AND six (6) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.
OR
Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering AND seven (7) years of more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.
OR
One (1) year or more of experience as an Environmental Engineer VI or two (2) years or more as an Environmental Engineer V.
OR
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Vermont, by written examination, in the fields of civil, civil/sanitary, environmental or sanitary engineering AND six (6) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.
