State of Vermont is Hiring a Leave Management Specialist I Near Montpelier, VT

Overview
The Vermont Department of Human Resources (DHR) is seeking a Leave Management Specialist to join the Leave Management Unit. This positoin will support employees in the Executive Branch of state government in need of Family Medical Leave. The ideal candidate will work effectively with all levels of employees and management, organize, and prioritize work effectively and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment. Duties will include handling confidential medical data, providing standard templated letters to employees throughout the process, tracking and monitoring employee leave usage using various queries and reports, as well as communicating any need for changes with the employee. Communication is mostly through email, however, we are also a call center allowing for employees to reach out via phone as needed. Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required.
Excellent organizational skills are necessary to coordinate and process a large volume of work. The successful candidate must also demonstrate their ability to evaluate, interpret, and provide guidance of family medical leave policy or procedure. Ability to work independently, deliver accurate and timely work, and have an aptitude and interest to learn are all key to success in this position.
The Department is currently supporting a hybrid telework environment. Requests to telework will be considered, and in person work may be required.

Class Definition
Specialized administrative and case management work for the Department of Human Resources. Determining eligibility for State of Vermont employees within the Executive Branch related to and ensuring compliance with the complex and day to day management of the Federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), VT Parental Family Leave Act (VTPFLA), leaves of absence outlined in applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) and State Policies and Procedures. Work involves extensive interaction with Executive Branch State of Vermont employees, supervisors, Department of Human Resources (DHR) staff, and statewide management teams. Work is performed under the supervision of the Leave Management Supervisor, including extensive interaction with a Labor Relations Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years or more of experience in human resources, or in an administrative role assisting with human resources functions.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's degree or higher in human resources, business management, or related field.
Experience administering labor and employment laws and regulations such as the Family Medical Leave Act, VT Parental Family Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and/or the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, Workers' Compensation and/or labor contracts.
