Overview

The Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking an Aviation Maintenance Technician.

Duties include, but are not limited to :

• Conduct daily inspections in addition to 5010 inspections annually
• Conduct fuel farm inspections according to Federal & State Regulations
• Monitoring activity airports and addressing or notifying others to address unsafe operations
• Issue Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs)
• Be available for snow removal operations at airports and operate heavy equipment year-round
• Mowing safety areas and surrounding vegetation management to heights specified by FAA
• Completes line striping, pavement patching, crack sealing, ditching, grading, sweeping (remove sand and debris), repairing shoulders, fence installation and repair, and removing debris or risk of debris.
• Ensure VT stormwater systems are in compliance
• Respond to airport emergencies which may include working weekends, holidays, and / or overtime
• Provide general information and aid to users and the general public
• Monitor weather radar, read aviation weather forecasts and weather observations to answer inquiries via radio or in person from pilots
• Ensure compliance with hazardous materials including documentation of receipt proper storage, proper handling and current MSDS sheets are available to users

Environmental Factors

Work is performed both in a facility and primarily in the field. Duties require exposure to extreme outdoor weather. An incumbent must be available for considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies.

Employees may be required to report to work outside of their work schedule and must be reachable by phone. An employee must be able to use tools and lift materials commonly used in routine maintenance work.

Normal dangers associated with work on or near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and responding to accidents, emergencies and natural disasters are present.

May be exposed to blood and airborne pathogens. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required. Travel throughout the state to various airports may be required.

Stress may be involved in negotiating and obtaining compliance with contracts, tenants, and users.

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) years or more of transportation maintenance or construction experience including experience operating a snowplow AND experience in aviation or airport maintenance.

Two (2) year as an Airport Maintenance Worker II.

Special Requirements

Complete Vermont State Aeronautics Training program within the first 6 months of employment.

An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.
