Job Title:
Security Guard 2 (SG2) - Complex Youth Program (On-Call)
Location: Lake Burien Youth Cottages, Burien, WA - Region 4. On-call hours vary and include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Closes: 09/11/24
Hourly: $22.98 - $30.86. The salary listed does not include the additional 5% premium granted to all King County employees.

The Opportunity:
The Security Guard 2 provides security and protection for staff and youth both indoors and outdoors and also provides security and protection to the building site. The Lake Burien Youth Cottages is staffed 24/7 and is a short-term living option for foster youth, ages thirteen years or older, without placement.

Some of what you'll do:
  • Ensure the safety and security of staff and residents.
  • Patrol buildings and grounds by foot and/or vehicle.
  • Control access to buildings.
  • Enforce safety and security policies.
  • Secure building at open/close.
  • Inspect for fire and safety hazards, make corrections and report needed repairs or action.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of daily activities, incidents, and security-related issues.
  • Prepare written reports for management regarding security breaches, disturbances, or other notable occurrences.
  • May attend occasional after-hours and office team meetings.
  • Perform basic data entry in Famlink.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

One year of experience as a Security Guard 1.
OR
One year of experience in areas of work such as security guard, correctional officer or store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work.
OR
A certificate of completion in a state-certified basic law enforcement training program or completion of a police or reserve police academy or military training program.


Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
  • Incumbent must successfully complete Right Response Training within six months of initial appointment.
  • Incumbent must hold a valid driver's license when operating a state or privately-owned vehicle on official state business, and must also comply with Washington State's liability laws when operating a privately-owned vehicle on official state business.
  • Incumbent must pass a Washington State criminal records background check prior to initial appointment.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Previously demonstrated work with youth.
  • Ability to remain calm in escalated situations and excellent de-escalation skills.
  • Previously demonstrated discretion and strong communication skills.
