Position Overview
The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Leadership Development Associate. Based in Olympia, this position is responsible for collaborating across the Washington State Community and Technical College system to lead the design of a leadership development program with a specific focus in building leadership pathways within the college system using a cohort model. This position will be responsible for leading curriculum design with an emphasis on equity, transformational leadership, political acumen, and financial management skills. This position will also design a cohort selection process to achieve diversity among participants.
In close collaboration with a leadership development advisory committee composed of a representative group of college presidents, trustees, vice presidents, diversity and equity commission members, and State Board members and SBCTC staff, this position is responsible for leading design of a leadership development program with a specific focus on building pathways for advancement within the college system using a cohort model.
This position will report to the director of equity, diversity, and inclusion, in close collaboration with the executive director and other senior staff. The successful applicant will work with the leadership development advisory committee on program design and content, participant recruitment and selection.
The success of the program, the successful applicant, and long-term goals and plans will be evaluated and measured.
This position may have flexibility for some telework. Travel for meetings and conferences is required.

Duties

  • Provide vision and guidance in the design and execution of a college leadership development program within a framework of equity, diversity, inclusion, and antiracism.
  • Build pathways for entry into and advancement through senior leadership positions to include but not limited to presidents, vice presidents, directors, and deans in the college system.
  • Work effectively and transparently with the leadership development advisory committee and system leaders to design and implement new, integrated leadership efforts and on-ramps for administrative, mid-level, and executive leadership roles.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with agency colleagues, college faculty and staff, and external stakeholders representing diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, identities, and learning styles.
  • Identify, provide thought leadership, and communicate the value of campus, system-based, and system-endorsed leadership development programs.
  • Independently organize and manage projects to successfully meet project outcomes, deliverables, and deadlines.
  • Fosters a climate of creativity, curiosity, lifelong learning, teamwork, communication, and innovation.
  • Embrace and embed equity and inclusion in decision-making.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will have:
    • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
    • A masters degree, or a bachelors degree and/or equivalent experience relevant to the principal activities of the position.
    • Experience with community and/or technical college systems.
    • Demonstrated experience and leadership in the design of leadership development programs using appropriate and varied learning modalities.
    • Demonstrated experience in organizational change and project management.
    • Demonstrated understanding in student success initiatives.
    • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and deliverables.
    • Experience with instructional design, curriculum development, or similar.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate:
    • Knowledge in improving equity in organizations, experience in integrating DEI thinking and actions into employee and organizational development work, and/or project management skills.
    • Familiar with research development, evaluation, learning needs assessments, principles of adult learning.
    • Skills in facilitation, coaching, learning communities, and/or mentoring.
    • Collaborative work style.
    • Exhibit excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
    • Communicate appropriately with a broad array of constituencies at the SBCTC, across the community and technical college system, community and nonprofit partners, and other state agencies.
    • Fluency in Microsoft 365, Google workspace, Zoom and video conferencing platforms, survey, polling, and scheduling tools.
