The Opportunity
WSDOT is seeking a Transportation Engineer 3 to serve as the Project Lead in Shoreline, WA. The Project Lead directs activities that are necessary for the development of transportation safety, preservation, and improvement projects for the NWR within the WSDOT charge of programs. The Project Lead is responsible for delivering the assigned projects within scope, schedule, and budget, while developing the direct reports to become future leaders of the Department. The Project Lead has high impact to WSDOT’s mission to provide and support safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation options to improve livable communities and economic vitality for people and businesses. The Project Lead will deliver projects using a variety of delivery methods.
 
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Project Lead will:
  • Utilize the available resources to manage the day-to-day activities of assigned projects to ensure successful delivery of these projects. Ensure deliverables meet current standards and guidelines.
  • Manage consultants.
  • Prepare and update project management plans.
  • Prepare and resource load project schedules.
  • Update and manage project schedules.
  • Preparing design documentation files, environmental documentation, right of way plans, Request for Qualification (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP), and Plans, Specifications, & Estimates (PS&Es).
  • Update aging reports and earned value charts, and other related project management activities.
 
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or certification as an Engineer-In-Training
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 2 or equivalent project development or engineering experience.
  • Driver license or the ability to obtain a license.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of civil engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications, including Microsoft Suite products
  • Traverse uneven terrain during all weather conditions
 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Professional Engineer’s License in Civil Engineering issued in the state of Washington.
  • Three years of increasing responsibilities in performing roadway design work.
  • Project management experience utilizing P6
  • Proficiency with Microstation for design, preparation of plans, and estimating.
  • Proficiency with InRoads for 2D and 3D design

  • The salary range listed includes the legislative approved general wage increase of 3%, effective on July 1, 2024.
  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County. 
  • In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
