Job Title : Indian Child Welfare (ICW) Active Efforts Specialist 3 (SSS3) or Social Service Specialist 1 or 2 In-Training.

Location : Mount Vernon, WA - Region 3. This position is full-time and requires time in the field and the office therefore, full-time teleworking is not an option.

Salary : Social Service Specialist 1 : $4,517 - $6,077. Social Service Specialist 2 : $5,117 - $6,876. Social Service Specialist 3 : $5,370 - $7,226.

We are looking for a Social Service Specialist 3 or Social Service Specialist 1 or 2 in training who will be responsible for providing case management services to children and families in Region 3, at our Mt.

Vernon Office location. We need your motivation and case management skills in the Active Efforts Unit to assess and intervene on assigned cases to determine child safety and a family's capacity to provide child safety.

The Opportunity :

Indian Child Welfare (ICW) Active Efforts Specialists are responsible for making active efforts to reach tribal family members throughout a case before removing a child.

In this role, you will take protective action, enhance parental capacities, plan for permanent living arrangements for children, and ensure the child’s health and education needs are met.

You will focus on building collaborative working relationships with identified tribal partners and have primary assignments (or be co-assigned) to CFWS / CPS cases providing social services to Native American Families.

Some of what you will get to do :

  • Meet and interview children, parents, Indian Custodians, extended family, and collaterals working with a family.
  • Consult and collaborate with the child’s tribe.
  • Review child protective services and child welfare history, criminal records, and other applicable documents.
  • Identify imminent safety threats, and short-term or long-term risks that may occur in a family.
  • Attempt to reach parents at all contact numbers and addresses on file, seek out relatives, and system of parents of assistance.

Contact tribe and parent’s service providers for assistance if needed, and utilize parent locator when parents cannot be found.

  • Assess family history and support system by inquiring parents if a history of trauma exists, and if trauma triggers are present.
  • Ensure parent providers are aware of parent trauma history / triggers by providing collateral information.
  • Inquire parents and family members about cultural backgrounds and what cultural involvement means to the family.
  • Consult with tribes to identify cultural activities / supports for parents.
  • Seek consultation from parents to determine which providers to refer to, offer support by making calls with parents and help remove other barriers that may occur.
  • Assess a family’s access to safe, reliable transportation and help address challenges.
  • Assess a family’s access to a reliable address and forms of communication, and help obtain access.
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation into FamLink.
  • Attend and testify in court.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

The goal class is a Social Service Specialist 3; however, we will consider candidates at the Social Service Specialist 1 and 2 levels, with two different options to meet the qualifications through an In-Training Plan.
