What We’re Seeking: DATCP currently has an opening for a Financial Specialist - Senior position with the Division of Agricultural Development within the Bureau of Administrative Services.
Where We’re Located: The Prairie Oaks State Office Building is situated on Madison’s southeast side. We are only minutes away from the Beltline Highway, Interstate 90 and Highway 51 for quick access to local restaurants, retail and service locations.
Telecommuting Option: This position may have the ability to telecommute up to 6 days per 2-week pay period! An approved telecommuting agreement is required before an employee may telecommute. Approval of the employee’s telecommuting agreement and work schedule will vary based on the operational needs of the Division. All DATCP employees who telecommute are required to live in Wisconsin.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing administrative, fiscal and program support for various division work units. This work includes the use of various funding sources including GPR, PR, FED, and SEG accounting strings. Financial responsibilities include, but are not limited to: directing payment activities (e.g., invoices, travel vouchers, receipts of revenues, reimbursements, etc.), coordinating purchases and conducting simplified bids, assisting with P-card processes, and support to other budget and grants staff in tracking division or program operating budget items as assigned (e.g., funding transfers, etc.). The position is responsible for auditing financial transactions.
In addition, the position is responsible for developing fiscal resources and delivering fiscal training to staff to improve the workflow (e.g., develop on-line mini-webinars or other demos, FAQ sheets, centralized resource files, present at staff meetings, etc.). The position will also manage division fleet activities.
This position will also provide support for the Division of Animal Health traceability program by managing the veterinary supply program, review animal herd documents to determine whether the documents submitted meet state and/or federal standards, and provide quality assurance related to the continuity of numerical sequences with the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium (WLIC).
Financial Specialist – Sr Full Position Description
Salary Information
The classification of this position is Financial Specialist-Senior, which is in schedule-range 2-13 with a starting pay of $24.82 per hour or the minimum at the time of appointment. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.

Must have the ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs occasionally to stock, retrieve and pack ordered materials.
QualificationsMinimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:
  • Experience performing financial duties and bookkeeping (developing budgets, performing account reconciliations, journal entries, identify and recommend options to resolve budget issues, etc.)
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel or similar to create spreadsheets, enter account information in databases, prepare monthly statements and reports, etc.)
  • Experience providing customer service and/or coordination activities (gathering and tracking information, identifying and meeting deadlines, answering questions, problem solving, etc.)
In addition, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:
  • Experience using the State Transforming Agency Resources (STAR/PeopleSoft) program or equivalent financial modules (Reporting Tools, Procurement, Accounts Payable, Travel & Expenses, etc.)
  • Experience working with grant funds (preparing fiscal status reports, preparing funding applications, analyzing spending trends, processing reimbursement claims, etc.)
  • Experience auditing financial documents and/or transactions
  • Experience compiling, interpreting and/or tracking financial data
